Written by Chris Moore FONDA, NY – The Track of Champions will be adding another Modified point title winner to the list of weekly entrants at the historic facility. Mike Mahaney plans to make the two-and-a-half-hour tow from his Elizabethtown, N.Y., base to Fonda Speedway every Saturday in 2021. “Fonda is a lot of fun to race; it’s a very racy track that is challenging as well,” Mahaney said. “It’s also one of the closer tracks to our shop, so we felt like choosing Fonda weekly would be a great option for us.” Mahaney’s ‘21 has gotten off to a red-hot start especially on the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco tour. Mahaney finished second...
Mike Mahaney crossed the finish line on the final points night in 10th-place in the George Huttig-owned modified, which was enough for him to dethrone Marc Johnson as the modified champion at Malta and pick up his first career Albany-Saratoga Speedway Championship. Mahaney, whose only win came in the first race of the season, admitted he may have been racing a little cautiously on Friday. “I was as cautious as I needed to be,” he said. “I knew I had to finish, and I figured I had to finish in the top 10. I probably could have done better, but I didn’t want to take any unnecessary chances.” Mahaney went on to clinch the 2020 title and celebrate with the...
By: BOBBY SWEENEY MALTA, NY – Mike Mahaney took the win in Albany-Saratoga Speedway’s season opener, holding off a last-starting Stewart Friesen for the victory. A lap five yellow solidified the lead for Brown, as Tremont headed pitside with a flat left front tire. This put Keith Flach, Rocky Warner, and Ronnie Johnson behind Brown for the restart, with Flach getting a great jump and taking the lead. Johnson and Warner quickly followed Flach’s path, sliding by Brown and into second and third. The top three remained comfortable for a short moment, up until Flach hopped...
After Airborne Speedway announced they will no longer have modifieds on the schedule full-time this season, it left Mike Mahaney and car owners George and Julie Huttig, without a Saturday night home track. “We didn’t know where we were going to race on Saturday nights so we’ve just been working hard on our big block program up here in Elizabethtown knowing that if the cars are ready, then we will be competitive no matter where we end up.” It was a very tough decision for the No.35 team to decide where they will compete on Saturday nights but with a new sponsor coming on board, it made the decision much easier. Mahaney is excited to welcome Tony Monaco Landscaping,...
